Hello...this week we will be covering tuberculosis. We were originally going to cover cholera, but I decided that 1) TB, as a frequent HIV-concomitant illness, would be a good follow-up to last week's study of HIV/AIDS, 2) A study of cholera fits more neatly with our later discussion of sanitation and water safety. Anywho, here is some basic information about TB to get you started:
For basic information about TB (transmission, demographics, treatment), look at the WHO fact sheet here.
For the clinical description of TB (ie signs and symptoms), look at the CDC website here.
For a description of the difference between latent and active TB, look at the this CDC fact sheet.
For images that show the mechanism of TB drugs, including the biological mechanisms by which the TB bacilli are drug-resistant, look at the NIH website here.
To see an educational module developed by Partners in Health to educate its accompagnateurs about TB, look here.
I hope you all had a good weekend and that you are ready to learn this week!
NB: I forgot to post an assignment! Since it's already late, you all get off easy tonight...no assignment...yet. See you tomorrow.
